[The worst kind of monster, then. The kind you dream about a thousand different times and in a thousand different ways, wishing you could have done something differently to stop them.]
Are you okay telling me like this?
[Adam has told horror stories that would make people's skin crawl through text messages, but not everybody is him.]
I guess I've only got one more question and that's what he is. Human? Not human?
[He'd had a feeling about her group of people and their home, like a shadow in the back of his mind constantly nagging at him, but now it's impossible to avoid the question when they're talking people who can find ways to bring themselves back from the dead.]
[Talking about the monsters that have ruined your life and killed your family is a bit like cutting out a piece of yourself and displaying it on the tip of a knife for all the world to see.
He'd give Allison a chance to say what she had to say in person if need be, but he'd understand the reasons not to.]
You didn't have to. But I'm glad you did. Thanks for the heads up.
So then that whole family isn't human?
[What he knows about werewolves is what pop culture had taught him before the Cage, that people are bitten, that they ending up shedding fur everywhere on each full moon. Now that all the pieces are sliding into place, Adam can see from his conversations with Cora that there's a lot more going on here than what meets the eye.]
[ what she means is i'm trusting you with this. she trusts all of them, really, which might be the issue in the first place. but she does, and when he asks that question, she feels her stomach drop.
did she make the wrong decision? she doesn't know. she hates that she doesn't know, but it's too late now. ]
peter's nothing like the rest of his family derek's the one who killed him in the first place
[Adam might go so far as to say he likes Allison, and even Cora, as people when liking people is a good way of setting yourself up for failure, whether it's because those people don't turn out to be who you thought they were, or they disappoint you in some other way.
That's why he's more gentle than he has been in the past when it comes to saying that what they are is just as important as who. All of the Hales being a type of monster matters.
There must be a reason Allison hasn't lived up to her own family's profession and hunted them, and it probably has something to do with werewolf girls going out of their way to save humans for no reason, but that's Allison's reason, not his. He needs the full story before he can put the issue of species to bed, if ever.]
They're the ones that wolf out every month and need to be locked up outside, aren't they?
[He's starting to see he'd been in closer proximity to the neighbourhood werewolves than he'd thought.]
[ and that's the main line in which they disagree. where they'll always disagree. because allison doesn't think that liking people is setting you up for failure. if anything, the only way true failure could happen is when you're left totally alone.
maybe that's a niave way of looking at things. maybe that's why allison was always fated for the same end. but no matter what does happen, or did, she's not going to let adam sit in that black and white world of his. ]
no
[ because they don't have to be locked up. they have control over it- which means he's probably thinking of the others. of remus, and more. ]
I didn't even know we had ones being locked up on the full moon I heard that they used to do that a while ago with some others I didn't know it was still happening
[Adam's not sure he believes that. This is the same sort of runaround he'd done with Cora, getting answers that are about as clear as dishwater, which doesn't help.
And maybe he wonders how someone who'd lost a family member to a breed of monsters wouldn't want to flay them with her words until there's nothing left. Hell hadn't taught him how to hate the monsters, and angels, and relatives who'd helped put him in the Cage and forgive the rest.]
How many werewolves are there besides just the Hales?
[ she has a lot of answers for him, if he wants to ask the questions but she's also not 100% sure which answers would be better. still, she handles this as well as she can - just like cora, apparently.
So I'm not going to find out later you've got more hunter secrets and you know more than you're saying, right?
[He trusts Allison's being honest about Peter--he wants to believe someone who's really suffered like that is being sincere about her family.
But when they'd talked about hunter stuff before, she'd left the part about werewolves out of it. He's met a lot of people in the habit of omitting the truth, and it all amounts to the same in the end: leaving out details he'd rather know than not know, regardless of if he deserves to.]
if you mean like do I have a secret list of every supernatural creature left in wonderland at every time no, I don't but if your family is anything like mine was, you know I can't answer that
[ she trusts adam implicitly, it's something that has come with the time they've spent together, the bonds they've forged. she wants nothing - literally nothing - more than to have him trust her back.
but derek, isaac, cora and scott were her family. and if there's anything she's learned from hunters, it's that family supersedes all. even with adam, who seemed to have a more complicated relationship with his. ]

just for a frame of reference
[ she doesn't want everyone going out and hunting him down, but at the same time if someone were going to, she wouldn't stand in their way.
and there's the question, and allison has to pause. because she'll fight for her friends come hell and high water, but peter? ]
